What If Your Child’s Story Happened Somewhere Else?
By Sanower Ahmedi, Parenting Coach · 8 September 2026
Your child knows the story.
They know what happens next.
So change the world.
“Remember the picnic story?
Now imagine it happened on a train.”
Suddenly, the story can't stay the same.
The train is moving.
There are other passengers.
The character can't simply run across a field.
The setting changes the possibilities.
Pick a New Place 🌍
Take a familiar story moment.
Move it to:
🏖️ Beach
🚆 Train
🛍️ Market
Ask:
“What would be different here?”
...
Change ONE Thing
Don't ask your child to rewrite the whole story.
Just ask:
“What would happen differently now?”
A ball lost in a park?
On a train, it might roll under a seat.
That's storytelling through thinking—not memorising.
...
Move It Again 🔄
Now try another setting.
Park → Beach → Market
Ask:
“What does this place make possible?”
And watch your child discover that changing the world can change the story.
...
Try This Today
You don't need materials.
You don't need a new story.
Just take one your child already knows and ask:
“What if this happened somewhere completely different?”
This simple game helps children see stories from new perspectives, building creativity and flexible thinking.
By adapting the story to different worlds, they learn to notice how places can change what happens next.
6–12 minutes. One familiar story. One surprising new world. 🌱
