The Little Face That Had a Big Feeling

Sometimes, a little face says what little words cannot. A child may know they feel something without knowing how to explain it. What if a simple mirror could help them begin?
The Little Face That Had a Big Feeling
One afternoon, a parent stood with their little one in front of a mirror.
“Can you show me a happy face?” they asked.
The child smiled.
“What about a sad face?”
The smile disappeared, and a tiny pout appeared.
“Hmm… when do you feel sad?” the parent wondered aloud.
The child paused, then shared a little story of their own.
And just like that, a simple mirror game became a conversation about feelings.
Try This at Home: Mirror Faces 🪞
Stand with your child in front of a mirror and take turns making four faces: happy, sad, surprised and worried.
Ask your child, “When do you feel this way?”
Let them answer in their own words, gestures or little stories. There is no need to correct their feelings or rush their answers. Just listen.
The little lesson: Children learn to recognise emotions when they get the chance to notice, express and talk about them.
